The course is delivered in your workplace using a mix of learning that involves use of the College online learning platform (Oaklearn) and Assessor guidance. There is not normally a need for learners to attend College other than for an interview and initial assessment. The duration of the course will in most cases be 14 months and you can start at any point in the year.

This course is appropriate for people working in the Golf Greenkeeping or Sportsturf industry. You should be fully employed at a Golf Club or Sports Turf venue. Due to government funding rules the cost of the course will depend on your age, qualifications held etc. You are advised to contact the Workbased department at the College for advice on cost.

The topics covered in the diploma include turf maintenance, health and safety in the workplace, self-development, machinery use and maintenance, maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems, collecting information and advising others, holding meetings, running small scale projects, analysing sites, preparing of ground and establishment of grass areas etc.

There is no additionality for this course, however it would be an advantage to hold pesticide application certificates PA1 and 2 or 6 (note these are not included as part of the level 3 course).

Success in the programme will be based on practical competence in the workplace and underpinning knowledge. Students must complete a portfolio of evidence to support their competence.

This award will give you a supervisory qualification. On completion of this course and assuming suitable experience and skills you can progress onto the ILM Level 4 Management qualification or with suitable experience the Golf Course Manager Apprenticeship
